Steve Stafford wished for Revit to be able to split vertical columns. There are some reasons that vertical columns are not eligible to be split by the splitting tools but I won't bore you with the details (actually, I can't bore you with the details). So, this quick project was something that I had heard as a wish several years before and I put together this quick little beta to gather some feedback. The beta will run until May and by that point it will either be on the appStore or we will have decided that only Steve would wish for such a thing. I know there are some workarounds (turn columns to slanted, split them, turn them back to vertical) but I think a dedicated tool which can process many columns at once might be helpful. It was a nice distraction from some heavier coding that I am working on so I hope you enjoy it. It's very simple right now: it will split all selected structural columns at a level elevation specified by the user; However, here are some potential improvements:
-Level Offset for split
-Multi-select level (split at multiple levels)
-Click in project to select split elevation
-Split slanted columns
-Preserve custom instance properties
-Create splice connection geometry for connection scheduling
This Beta will only work with Revit 2014.
